It’s never easy deciding who will take care of your dogs when preparing to go on vacation.
When we planned a week-long vacation earlier this year, we simply didn’t want to place our rescued flat-coat, Shadow, and our MABCR adoptee, Clarke, in the same local kennel we had previously used. At about the same time, the MABCR newsletter arrived with the ad for Victory Farm – and the light bulb went ON!
We arrived at Chestertown, MD on a hot, humid Saturday in late May and were warmly greeted by MABCR founder Sarah, her daughter Alina and Sarah’s amazing BC’s led by Jordan and Alec. Our dogs wasted no time in getting to know the clan and wandering around the spacious grounds. After all, Clarke was back home!
Sarah gave us the grand tour of Belle Rose Guest Cottage where we would stay that evening; what a treat it was! We were welcomed to an inviting bed with beautiful flowered quilts, pretty country furniture, a living room with a TV, lots of BC-related reading materials and a stocked kitchen with sodas, flavored coffees, flatware and pots and pans for the adventurous chef. The bathroom was also appealing, with fluffy white towels, specialty soaps and candles. What could be better?
We ended the evening by accompanying Sarah and twelve Borders in a game of fetch on the front lawn – one amazing feat! And speaking of all of the fostered BC’s, if you have never visited Victory Farm to see first hand the effort that is involved with the MABCR, it is a REAL eye-opener. The amount of time, effort and care that is required is overwhelming. I don’t know where Sarah finds the energy!
Though we had to leave Victory Farm early the next morning to catch our flight, it was a pleasant overnight stay. Of course Clarke and Shadow had an incredible week at the farm: chasing the chickens, socializing with the other BC’s, and (the best perk of all) each lost a few pounds.

At the end of our vacation we returned for one final night in the cozy cottage where our well-exercised dogs eagerly welcomed us back. So when planning YOUR next vacation, call Sarah to reserve the cottage and to board your dogs for an experience no one will soon forget. And though the bed is comfortable, don’t worry about missing your flight – the rooster will ensure that you are on time!!
